Euro vs Dollar
The currency for the rake can have a huge impact on your winrate. Most of the rooms propose games and rake in $, others poker rooms have chosen € and some poker rooms have a mix of both. If there was no cap on the rake, currency would not matter as 5% still 5% no matter the currency. However, when there is a cap to a fixed amount, let’s say 3 units, the currency is very important as 3 units can be 3$, 3€,… You can easily understand that at the moment it is more expansive to pay rake in € as 3€ is about 4$. It means that for every single pot you win when the cap is reached, you would pay 1$ more. It can become really important when you participate in a rake race and you would have to play some ten thousands hands.
If you want a more concrete example, here it is:
In April 2008, PT shows that I won 1328 hands with the cap rake at 3$, fair enough. If I had played on euro tables, I would have paid one more dollar for all these 1328 hands. It means my winnings would have been reduced by 1328$ just because of a different currency (it would have been even worse at that time as Euro was even stronger). Of course, I would have more rakeback but it is far from covering the difference.
